The Lipid Center was started in 1997 to manage the large number of patients with high levels of fats (Cholesterol and Triglycerides) in the blood. High levels of these substances can lead to high risk of heart disease The objective was to work with patients to reduce these fats by diet, exercise, risk factor modification, and medications to reduce the risks for heart disease and stroke. This led to doing clinical trials for the development on new cholesterol drugs sponsored by drug companies under the regulations of the FDA.

We have contributed to the development of most of the new cholesterol drugs in the last 10 years. Dr Rhyne has been the Primary Investigator for more than 50 clinical trials during that time. Patients can benefit by getting free medications and free medical care by participating and we can be on the cutting edge of new developments in the lipid arena. Other areas of interest for The Lipid Center and clinical trials involve obesity, hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
